Why Choose "Hairy" EPDM PK Belts?

Why Choose

Many of our friends and distributors have asked us about the pupose of the hairy belts. But we haven’t systematically explained it to them, not because we don’t want to explain it, but because it is difficult to discuss with in a short period of time. It also need to have professional industry pricing and costs issues.

"Hairy" belts refers to belts with added fibers during the manufacturing process. The regular rubber already contains fibers, but these are common and it doesn’t reach the level of "hairy." Hairy belts added aramid fiber to this base, and after adding this fiber and grinding, the effect will be shown in the picture. These multi-ribbed belts are commonly used in the automotive industry, while V-belts are more commonly used in demanding applications like agricultural machinery and ATVs.

So in this article we will explain the difference between hairy and non-hairy PK belts:

From a cost perspective,PK belts with fibers are more expensive. For example, DuPont's Kevlar fiber costs over 500 yuan per kilogram, and it is quite expensive. And from an aesthetic point of view, the hairy belts are more attractive and have a greater selling point.

The next thing that we’re doing is we were conducting quality testing. And this tests revealed that aramid staple fiber EPDM PK Belts can performed better  than the ordinary fiber EPDM PK belts in different performance aspects, with a more stable coefficient of friction.

Therefore, aramid staple fiber EPDM Ploy v belts are stronger rather than to an ordinary staple fiber EPDM Ploy v belts in terms of product lifespan, noise and vibration reduction.

So in direct speaking, the difference between "with fuzz" and "without fuzz" in practical applications is not significant. This mainly depends on the main material, which is divided into EPDM, CR, and NR, with EPDM being the most advantageous material.

To sum it up, the EPDM can hold up over 80,000 km, the CR material are around 60,000 km, while NR around 30,000 km. Therefore, when purchasing, we must focused more onto the main material, and not only when it has "fuzz."
