Various belt manufacturers, distributors and aftermarket companies use their own belts to promote their corporate image (either by name, colour or by using a specially formulated material). That's where the Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) and Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) can be helpful. Guanpin factory has been manufacturing more than 26 years. Many customers have come to us with their requirements and we have made them a reality for timing belts, V-belts, PK belts and toothed belts. With this guide, you'll find a step-by-step process and some tips for creating a successful custom belt project and create high quality products along with your brand's needs.
Understanding OEM vs. ODM Which Model Fits Your Business?
It's a significant dialogue to have as it comes with the distinction between OEM and ODM products. But, there's so much to discuss thanks to the OEM vs. ODM products! The belts are produced by the manufacturer(s) based on the design, drawing or sample size dimensions provided by you, which are called OEM belts. You as owner of the technical specifications are the one with responsibility for production and we as we are responsible for implementation with your trademark, packaging and quality. With ODM, no need to have an in-house engineering team, we develop a belt to meet your performance and application and target cost requirements. It is designed by us and will be sent to you for approval based on the sample of the belt structure, belt material, rib profile and tooth profile. Here at Guanpin we have experience with both models. OEM will be the most appropriate choice for aftermarket distributors who already have part number systems in place and are looking for a production partner that can count on their reliability. The ODM option allows you to benefit from our know-how built over 26 years in material science and molding, without having to put together your own R&D team, particularly for new vehicles segments (like an electric vehicle auxiliary drive) or new brands.
Customization Options From Logos to Material Chemistry
The word "customization", at Guanpin, does not only refer to writing the name on the surface of the belt. A complete suite of variant parameters available to meet the brand/ regional market requirements. Firstly, visual branding. The belt's backside or fabric cover can be molded or laser printed with permanent, oil resistant, heat fade resistant inks with authorized logos, brand names and part numbers. Colour customisations can be about form as well as function: Colour coding to various types of tensile cord and even to hardness, can help your workshop customers keep track of your stock. Secondly, material formulation: change the hardness (Shore A) of the rubber compound, the oil resistance and the heat-resistance. For ODM projects we don't use the same type of rope (tensile cord) as in the classic passenger car: polyester for classic passenger cars, aramid for heavy duty trucks and fiberglass for the high precision timing belts – fiber with zero elongation. Thirdly, packaging: We design and develop your packaging, labels and barcodes for your retail and wholesale business.
The Custom Production Workflow From Concept to Delivery
In Guanpin, the making process and customization of belts are organized and transparent, avoiding delays and misunderstandings, and guaranteeing a smooth and efficient belt making process. Communication with you on your goal application, volume estimates and any reference samples or drawings will be included in the consultative phase. Your engineering staff's needs are analyzed, and an initial material selection and dimensional layout is suggested. The second stage is tooling and sampling, for ODM orders precision molds will be created or cutting tools for the required belt profile (such as rib geometry for PK belts or tooth pitch for timing belts). We then make a small number of samples (usually 10-20 samples) and invite you to rate them. The following tests are recommended in this stage: dimensional verification test, dynamic testing and heat-aging test. Approval and mass production stages is the third stage. After samples approval, we start production according to your quantity order, in process inspection during the curing, cutting and printing process. Packaging and shipping: Traceability codes will be printed on each belt and then packed in the custom-made printed packaging boxes/polybags for international shipping.
Quality Assurance and Long-Term Partnership Value
Making custom belts can be a crucial element in branding and positioning in the marketplace. So, it's no wonder that quality assurance is important. All of our custom made products are tested at the same or higher standard as our standard product line. Special compounds or colors can have a different cure cycle, and as such will be adjusted to fit the requirements. The tests include dynamic fatigue tests, tensile strength tests, ozone resistance, thermal aging for providing service life and quality of the formulated product. Full traceability is also maintained: Every lot of production is given a lot number which is linked to the certificate of the raw material, mixing parameters and inspections. In case of any quality problem, the batch for which the problem is occurring can be identified quickly and corrective action can be taken. We see each custom order as a beginning of a long lasting partnership, above the test. We apply the strategies of production planning and flexibly MOQ policy to be competitive for small test order and large volume production.
Conclusion
OEM/ODM customization is a technique through which automotive companies can not only deliver best performance of the transmission belt under the hood but also distinguish themselves in the very competitive automotive industry.
